WotC News Roundup

A couple of news items of interest today...

Dead in Thay, the next season of D&D Encounters, is launching on the weekend of May 10-11. Seems to be an old-fashioned dungeon crawl.

There's a revised version of the Dungeon board game coming out in June, with a sticker price under $20. No word on what changes are being made since the 2012 edition.

The usual submission window for Dragon and Dungeon magazines is not open as it would normally be in April. No word on the fate of either of the now-on-hiatus electronic magazines.

Thanks for the heads up on things. I 'almost' forgot about Dragon/Dungeon there for a moment. I'm sure come August they'll be back in business, with a head start on submitters too.

I've never played Dungeon, but if the dungeon crawling experience can be accurately simulated via a boardgame or a video game, I wonder about the efficacy of doing so in a pen and paper RPG.

I fully realize the irony of posting this opinion on the website of the author the Castle of the Mad Archmage.

Is a human DM really necessary for a dungeon crawl? Should fantasy RPG adventures move on to other venue?

Oh, I don't think it needs to be "accurately simulated" to be a fun game. I think you're reading too much into it.

They still print Dragon and Dungeon? Wow...where on earth is it sold? I used to get Dragon regularly in the mid-'80s.
